County Recorder John S. Alexander is a graduate of Piqua Central High School in Piqua, Ohio and Bowling Green State University with a degree in Business Administration.

Recorder Alexander was appointed in the third year of Recorder John W. “Bud” O’Brien’s term after O’Brien was elected the newest Miami County Commissioner in 2006. The Recorder serves a four -year term as designated by the Ohio Revised Code.

As Recorder, John has added software to the office’s computer system for social security number redaction so that the Recorder’s documents may be placed on-line while still protecting the citizens of Miami County against identity theft.

John is currently in the process of streamlining the document recording process to speed up the turn-around time between recording and returning legal documents to the customer.  He has also upgraded the office’s current software in order to permit automated tracking of rejected legal documents, and the placement of older documents for public viewing on the computer system, at little or no cost to the County.

John and his wife, Kathy, reside in Piqua and are the parents of three children.

The Recorder’s Office has records of deeds, mortgages, mortgage releases & assignments, liens (mechanics, unemployment, workers compensation, federal tax, personal property, and notice of commencement), partnerships, soldier discharge and burial records, financing statements (UCC) and plats.  Records date back to 1807.

The Miami County Recorder’s office is located in the Miami County Safety Building just east of the Historic Miami County Courthouse.
